Prenatal Care
Midwifery visits are offered at the same frequency as OB visits, but we typically spend about 45-60 minutes together at each visit and learn more about each other, the birth you want, and how to maintain your health in order to have the healthiest pregnancy and birth possible. I also love to have dads and siblings present to include them in the process.
You are the perfect person to make choices for your prenatal care, your body, and your baby. We will take time at each visit to discuss all lab tests and ultrasounds that are pertinent at each stage of your pregnancy, why they are offered at this time and whether or not you want those tests performed. You will always be given information to make a truly informed decision of consent or refusal.
Labor Support
In the comfort of your own home, birth typically follows a normal, physiologic process. You and your birth partner will be lovingly supported by myself and my assistant. When a woman is left undisturbed, uninterrupted, and unobserved she can truly surrender to the birthing process and simply give birth. Birthing with a midwife typically results in lower infection rates, reduced cesarean rates and decreased interventions.
In labor, you will have freedom to move as you please, eat and drink freely and be surrounded by the comforts of your own home. You will also have freedom from the strict guidelines imposed by hospitals and pressures to deliver on anyone else's schedule. These guidelines often lead to unnecessary medical interventions, but are avoided at home.
Immediate skin to skin time with mother and baby encourages higher breastfeeding success rates. We also support delayed cord clamping. All examinations of your baby will be done with you, on your bed.
You can expect a truly beautiful experience, a team who listens to you, and who has the knowledge to offer education and recommendations as needed.
